Death penalty Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 2

Death penalty - Research Paper Example man some people support the death penalty, others strongly condemn it. Some of the arguments in its favor are discussed below. This refers to a logical state-sponsored rejoinder to criminality, which is warranted given that once a crime happens the victim is the state (Robinson, 2009). Cavadino & Dignan (2007) explain that retribution chastises the criminal in terms of just deserts. It focuses on the past events rather than on the future, and presumes that the penalty should fit the crime a tooth for a tooth, so to say. Normally, criminals who face execution are those who cause serious harm to the society. A murderer for instance is executed with the validation that two offences make a right.Seemingly, the retributive argument is the strongest when harmed, the government has a right to seek out justice with the innovation of re-balancing the justice scales that the lawbreaker skewed to his or her benefit when he or she committed the crime (R obinson, 2009).According to Scott (2008), incapacitation is a philosophical justification of punishment that dictates that an wrongdoers physical capacity to commit a crime be removed (199). Those who hold this argument hold the view that death penalty takes absent a criminals freedom in such a way that he or she is not able to perpetrate another disrespect he/she permanently ceases being a menace to the society (Robinson, 2009).Those who hold this view argue that once an individual initiates force against another guiltless individual, he or she has in reality declared that he or she does not conform to the principle of persons rights. That criminal is not prepared to prevail among men as a reasoning individual he or she only wants to live as a predator, to the obliteration as well as disadvantage of other beings around him or her. They also argue that rights result from a persons nature of living as a wise being and if a person decides to live unreasonably, he or she is

Should Britain Adopt the Euro Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Should Britain Adopt the Euro - Assignment ExampleThis transformation has been successful in meeting its goal. Greece has since adopted the Euro while Sweden, Denmark, and Britain, the latter of which is not considered a European country, have not. Many legislators and economists have suggested that it is simply a matter of when, not if, the UK will adopt the Euro. This discussion examines the benefits the UK will retain when this eventually happens and answers the legitimate concerns of those oppose to the transformation.Certain indisputable results have occurred following the conversion to the Euro. It has eliminated the represents and risks involved when exchanging foreign currency with other counties of the EU and made more transparent the cost of products. By adopting the Euro, Britain would be allowed a place on the European Central Bank (ECB) board thus being able to participate in the sparing policy of the EU. This would enhance the political influence of the UK which in turn would produce beneficial long-term opportunities for its economy. According to many published studies conducted regarding the effect of the Euro, using a common currency has already proven to augment mountain and competitoryness within the countries that use it. One study that measured the influence of the Euro on trade discovered countries that share a common currency trade about three times as much as countries without a common currency (Micco et al, 2003).It is clear that trade between Britain and EU countries would escalate if the same currency was used. Differences in types of money present barriers to trade because of the cost factors involved in converting it. life-size corporations would save significant amounts and open up previously unfeasible opportunities of trade to smaller companies. Reducing the cost of trade will make Britain more competitive as companies will be able to charge less for products yet yield.

Today, Ryanair is considered to be Europes oldest low-cost airline.Today, Ryanair has to deal with a lot of challenges that are posted because of the presence of low-cost carriers such as BMI Baby, EasyJet, and Thomson, which also operate between Ireland and Britain. For a long time, Ryanair attracted larger numbers of passengers because of its low prices, and several destinations points. Ryanair also marketed itself aggressively, and so was able to cultivate valuable relationships with operators in airports in different cities. Ryanair also made significant changes which were received well by passengers. For instance, in the past, Ryanair would only procure used planes so as to save on costs. I'm not sure Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 2

Im not sure - Essay ExampleHe explained Laozis thoughts through concrete instances from history, peoples life, and also from his surroundings. But most often, Zhuangzis elucidations appear most complex and complicated. Sometimes, they become diverted the mainstream of Daoism and tend to appear as an individual philosophic strand. The most remarkable difference between the two is how they view Tao or the Way. Both of them believe that the Way is beyond human cognizance and conception. In this regard, both of them are realists. But Zhuangzis approach to Tao or the Way is more applicable to human life than Laozis. That is, Laozi is more metaphysical than Zhuangzi. Since Laozis philosophy fails to dispel the favorable position of the Way or Tao, his teachings do not care much about human life as Zhuangzis teachings do. In this regard, it hatful be say that Zhuangzis Daoism is superior to Laozis. Both Laozi and Zhuangzi acknowledge the Dao as a transcendental existence which contains the whole universe. In Laozis word, The Great Tao flows everywhere../All things depend on it for life,/and it does not turn away from them./ One may think of it as the mother of all beneath Heaven./ We do not know its name, but we accost it Tao ... (Ivanhoe & Norden 165). It is nameless and formless and it exists everywhere. Yet nothing in this universe can be construed as the Dao. It is eternal and it is not knowledgeable. Rather it is beyond human perception as well as human language. The problem of human language is that it is not sufficient enough to describe it. It exists, but it cannot be described, as Laozi says, The Tao that can be told of is not the eternal Tao/ the name that can be named is not the eternal name (Ivanhoe & Norden 165). Laozi further describes it, There is a thing, formless yet complete./ onwards heaven and earth it existed. /Without sound, without

My Proficiency in English Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

My Proficiency in side - Essay ExampleBilingual speakers have a great understanding of their new cultures and they are able to move effectively with individuals from the foreign region. Speaking a different delivery enables an individual to gain communicative competence, therefore, emphasizing the role of circumstances and context under which phrase is used appropriately and accurately. Speaking a second language equips individuals with important skills that are required in a new-culture environment. Learning a second language contributes towards learning cultural practices of the community that speaks the specific language. Without a hint of doubt, face is a fascinating language a language that, in my view, everyone should learn. This is especially considering that across the world, it is commonly spoken and used as a national Language. I may not have my statistics right but I presume position is only second to French in terms of popularity in the International arena. With re lative confidence, I may state that in every single country, you pull up stakes find at least one person that speaks the Queens dialect. Like Tan states, I am not a scholar of English or literature and my aim is not to write about the popularity of English as a language spoken internationally but to narrate how I got to learn English. Apart from the occasional English words that I heard from a neighbor who was a white man, my low gear formal encounter with English was in primary school. In grade one, we started being introduced to the English alphabet and simple English words. We were also taught how to count in English. Slowly but surely, I got to learn how to scribble English words on the little books we were given, somewhattimes without understanding what the words meant. My enthusiasm grew with time about learning new things and I kept trying to read and recall whatever I had learnt. At 13 years of age, I started reading with relative ease. One of the books I first read was S uperman. Like Alexie states, Simple enough, I suppose. I cannot recall which particular Superman comic book I read, nor can I remember which scoundrel he fought in that issue (Alexie par. 1). Surprisingly, I realized that I understood whatever I read in the book. I realized once that the var. the white man taught us was being taught to our superiors in class. It is then that I realized that we were learning the language of the white man. I knew then that I had whelm a barrier and was facing a world that previously was unknown to me. I could at least understand what the white man was saying to an extent. My refer in learning English continued to grow and I continued to seek and read more English books. I read several childrens books and articles including Learning to Read, an excerpt from The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and Mother Tongue by Amy Tan, and gradually learnt the English culture. Of course, I also learnt to read and write using the Chinese alphabet. By the time I was d oing my eighth grade, my English was remarkable going by the comments that my teachers made. I often got rewards for scoring higher than my peers in English. This served as a nigh motivation to work even harder and learn more of the language. I credit my success in learning English at the elementary level to my abundant time English teacher and parents. Without the encouragement of these personalities, I really would not have learnt that much that I have today. In spite of the constraints that they experienced can then, my parents took it upon themselves to buy me the required textbooks for school and additional books to ensure that my ambition was actualized. I got to learn a lot of vocabularies in high school. Here, I met fellow enthusiasts some of whom were a challenge to me. They seemed to know the language more than I did. I learnt a lot from them and from my teachers. Learning literature in high school as part of the course work helped to a great extent. I encountered many words and corrected some errors I had been making in my speech

Case Examines the Issues of Formulating a Set of IT Objectives Aligned Study

Examines the Issues of Formulating a Set of IT Objectives Aligned With Corporate Strategy - Case Study ExampleMDCMs marketing and gross revenue department also lacks in contributing to the organizational growth despite fairly good human resource productiveness. Further, the supply orbit of the organization is not structured and organized in an effective approach which gives rise to perplexity in the workplace. Thus, the key objective of MDCM is to enhance the efficiency of these sectors in order to re-introduce business growth at this point of time (Jeffery, M. & Norton, J. F., MDCM, Inc. (A) IT Strategy Synchronization). It is worth mentioning that in every sector, from finance to marketing and sales along with the supply chain operations, MDCM managers are facing similar problems with the flow of information. It is also intrinsically related to the technological developments of the organization. To be specific, the finance department complains that the selective information which are received from other departments are behind the times and thus lack in efficiency. This requires to be renovated through appropriate IT proviso, as updated data is termed to be quite effective in developing accurate forecasts of the organizational progress which further leads to the management decision-making (Jeffery, M. & Norton, J. F., MDCM, Inc. (A) IT Strategy Synchronization).... Due to this reason, the department requires a self-service technology which will provide customers with the opportunity to help them with the extra services and reduce the burden of sales staffs. This will also ensure enhanced productivity in the department. The supply chain operations were further effected by the unorganizationatic progression of goods purchased and delivered to the ultimate customers. Therefore, the department requires a systematic resource think technology which will organize and simplify the entire process including the logistics outsourcing (Jeffery, M. & Norton, J. F., MDC M, Inc. (A) IT Strategy Synchronization). Stating precisely, the prime objective of MDCM is to introduce a highly effective IT system in the organization which will ensure efficient financial planning, better productivity in marketing and sales and an organized framework for the supply chain operations. However, the key objective of the organization at this moment is to ensure its growth and satisfying increment in shareholder value. This certainly requires an effective short-term planning from the IT department. 2.0. Competitive Forces Analysis 2.1. Threat of New Entrants MDCM has a broad network in the international market comprising of various developed and developing economies which reduces its operational appeal to a great extent. This certainly provides the organization with the strength to restrict the new entrants. Moreover, the organization deals with medical products which are recognized to be strictly restricted with the legal barriers and also requires a large amount o f investment. Technological support is considered to be one of the key requirements of the industry which again limits the threat of new entrants. However, the switching be of customers

Fourth Grade Ratio and Proportion Lesson Plan Essay

Fourth Grade Ratio and Proportion Lesson Plan - Essay ExampleThe method makes it achievable for students to participate in the learning process through the adoption of a learner-centered approach that involves the participation of the student in the process. The method is premised on the need to set up the capacity for critical assessment of facts in ways that promote deeper insights into the spheres that connect to ratios and proportions. The author also advocates for the need to develop a well-informed system that uses the experiences of the students to look for on the fundamental questions and dimensions of ratios and proportions. The aspect of reflection, as promoted in the book is essential for the task of developing authentic learning experiences. The use of experiences is meant to help the students to apply the lessons learnt to sincere activities outside the classroom. I would have proposed for increased use of illustrations and teaching aid that enhance the quality of un derstanding and memorability on the part of the students. The incorporation of technological aids would help the students acquire practical skills in handling diverse bodies of knowledge on the

Look Before You Leap Essay Example for Free

Look Before You Leap EssayAristotle is praised for naming fortitude, First of the cardinal virtues as that without which no other virtue can steadily be practiced but he might, with equal propriety have placed prudence and judge before it. Since without prudence fortitude is mad without justice it is dangerous. Only a fool or a suicide will jump into a river without qualification sure about the depths, eddies and whirlpools. And even there no one tests the depth of a river with both feet. Rashness has been unhappy p arent of misfortune. Once in a blue moon it might bring us luck but more often than not it is fraught with dangerous consequences. The Persian monarch Xerxes, rashly enough, ordered an expedition to conquer Greece. With a wave of the hand he dismissed all pitfalls and dangers. When the trial of strength came the armies of Xerxes were dashed to smithereens and the crestfallen monarch flee in a solitary boat, forlorn and humiliated. Those who act first think afterwa rds are bound to repent forever. History is replete with such instances.Napoleon, otherwise calculating and sagacious warrior in a rash and proud moment gave signal for an invasion of Russia. He had counted without the terrible winter of that country. His armies were bogged down in the snows. The extremum his army, the Iron Guards, perished and the loss became the prelude Napoleons utter downfall. History repeated itself. In the Second World War, Hitler drunk power and pride turned his guns towards Russia, in hatred of the Non- aggression Pact which he had solemnly signed. He also met disaster paid the price for his rash decision. True statesmanship lies in thinking nose candy times before deciding on any manikin of action. A situation is assessed in all its potentialities and possibilities. Though you would like to beat the dog, you have to train the masters face as well. Look before you leap, sums up the wisdom born out of experience. In ordinary situations the proverb holds. But there are moments crises or emergency when boldness or even rashness may be preferable cool calculation. In earthquakes, famines, floods and national calamities a person should act at once without caring for the consequences. In trying to avoid rashness one might go to other extreme of incredulity and sloth. A bachelor, said a humorist, is one who looks before he leaps then never leaps. Rashness is any time better than sloth. But the right course is quickness guided by prudence. Haste and rashness are storms and tempests breaking and wrecking business but nimbleness is a fair wind, blowing it with speed to the haven.

Theories of Management Essay Example for Free

Theories of Management EssayManagers be responsible for many things in an presidency and most of them handle various situations depending on their centering style. The major role of mangers is to get things d single in the direction of their goals for the memorial tablet (http//www.thinkingmanagers.com). The management style on the other hand is the leadership method occupyed by a manger. There are four management styles commonly use by managers these are directing, participating, delegating and guiding (http www.solhaam.org).The style that a manager will use insures whether the work gets done or not. Successful mangers have the capacity to use completely the management styles on their group. The situation in which the group is in always determines the management style in which the manager uses to make his/her group achieve their objectives. However, in that respect is a style that is dominant in a manger and it might be hereditary or acquired through education or experi ence. Most managers pick out the management styles from the theories of management. The 20th snow has seen theories changing over cartridge clip starting with bureaucracy and universalism of before 1920s, human relations of 1930s and motivation of 1950s. All these theories had one common thing and that is to make employers work whether through the use of authoritarian, participative, guiding and delegating and all had advantages and disadvantages and hence theorists are still finding the most hard-hitting one to be used by modern managers.Douglas McGregor proposes two theories, which emphasizes on employee motivation. He did not use description to identify but rather used symbols X and Y. These two theories suggest that the role of management is assembling the factors of production, which includes people, for the economic benefit of the organization (http www.accel-team.com). In this essay theory Y is discussed in expound and its implications analyzed. McGregor in his theory Y believes that employees can only be do best by improving their self-esteem and self-actualization. He generalizes that work can be as natural as play or rest and believes that workers can be made to enjoy work as they enjoy play and rest. He also believes that if people become committed to their objectives they can direct themselves towards meeting these objectives and this assumptions is echoed by many managers who believe that if they make their group members committed they can transact their tasks with very minimal guidance. McGregor further says that workers can be committed to their objectives if there are rewards such as higher pay or promotions. This is very time in many organizations and this has led many firms introduce the culture promotion by performance and hence employees always take their work very somber since they know that there are benefits in return. In fact, the reward system is a major motivation for many employees since it leads to self-fulfillment. He furth er beliefs that if employee are motivated they will definitely be responsible and state will lead an organization to higher heights of development. surmisal Y assumes that there is an opportunity to get hold personal goals with organizational goals using the workers own aspirations for self-fulfillment as the motivator. McGregor further believes that some employees may be immature and therefore there is need for stricter rules, which should be relaxed gradually as they continue to mature and therefore theory Y encompasses autocratic as well as participative approaches in management.Management implications of theory Y. give care all other theories of management used by mangers, theory Y has some demands from the organization in fix to motivate the employees these areDecentralization and delegation- for organization to motivate its employees it mustiness devolve power to the employees and hence the managers will have subordinates who are directly responsible to the manager and t he manager delegates some duties to them. The delegation of responsibility makes them confident and hence motivated.Job enlargement this theory suggests that firms broadens the working area of an employee so that there is a variety of new opportunities and responsibility and this boosts the ego of employees and thusly getting committed to company goals.Participative management since theory Y believes that in a population there are many creative ideas, some organizations who employ this theory consult their employees before make decisions this makes the employees feel important and accepted and hence motivated.Performance appraisals most organizations have set goals and struggle to achieve them. These organizations call for their employees in setting these goals and also involve them in evaluating of progress towards meeting the goals. Many managers echo McGregor views since it embraces a holistic approach the uses of different management styles depending on the state of the gr oup. This theory Y is the basis of my management style since I believe that management is getting things done by others with or without your presence. By making the employees happy a manager will ease his/her work since they will direct themselves and perform the tasks allocated to them and only ask for guidance whenever they encounter a crisis. finale Management unlike leadership depends on the culture of the institution and the perception and beliefs of the manager (http//www.solhaam.org). For one to succeed in managing a group he/she must be flexible according to the situation at hand. A manger must recognize the potentials of his/her employees and strive to tap their talent to the maximum in order to achieve their goals. By consulting and involving as well as delegating responsibilities to junior members managers will help motivate them since this builds the confidence of the employees. All the management theories and principles of the 20th century revolve around motivating emplo yees in order to achieve the set goals. These theories further suggest that the style of management employed by most managers determine the degree of participation by the employees. Their style can either motivate or the employees or become a disincentive to them and hence management theories and management styles are synergistic.ReferencesBono E. Hellers R.
